Judging Teams
McCurtain County has a strong tradition of successful judging teams. In 2007, our Livestock Team was 1st in the state and 3rd in the nation and our Forestry Judging Team was 2nd in the state within the Junior Division.

The 2007 Livestock Juding Team comprised of Jake Mullens, Sabrina Meeks, Chelsea Coffman, Mark McPeak and coached by Sammy Coffman recently placed 3rd at the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest during the North Amerian International Livestock Exposition in Louisville Kentucky. This team was the 16th McCurtain County team to win the state championship in the past 26 years - a record unmatched in the state of Oklahoma.
The 2007 Forestry Judging Team comprised of Crystina Marshall, Tiffany Milligan, Kyler Taylor, Trevyn Elliott, and Kolten Lambe and coached by county 4-H educator Brad Bain was this year's State Runner Up in the Junior (13 and younger) division at the State Forestry Contest held at Robbers Cave State Park.
Practice for the 2008 season will begin in early February and contest will be held in late March and April. If you would like to train to be on this year's team, contact Brad Bain at the Extension Office and you'll be updated on practice times.
2008 State 4-H Qualifying Livestock Judging Contest
Listed below are important facts about the 2008 State 4-H Qualifying Livestock Judging Contest, which will be conducted on April 26, 2008 under the direction of the OSU Animal Science Department. Please inform your 4-H members and volunteer leaders and share this packet with coaches.
The contest will be held at the Oklahoma State University Animal Science Arena (on McElroy and west of Western Street) on April 26, 2008. This years contest will be conducted at the same time as the State FFA Interscholastic Livestock Judging Contest. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the contest will start at 8:30 a.m.
All Teams (juniors & seniors) must have the 4-H Team Certification Form properly completed, signed and in their possession at the time of registration. Junior 4-H member’s are 9 (or fourth grade) -13 years of age as of January 1, and senior 4-H members are 14-18 years of age as of January 1.
This contest is intended for teams – three or four members. Each county may enter a maximum of three teams. Only teams will be eligible to qualify for national contests. But, individuals who are certified 4-H members will be able to participate. All participants in the contest will judge eight to ten classes. Seniors will give four sets of oral reasons, while juniors will give two sets of oral reasons. Contestants are ineligible to participate in out-of-state 4-H judging events if they have participated in official post-secondary (university, college, Jr. College, or technical school) competitive events of a similar nature in the same subject matter area or if they were a member of a post-secondary team undergoing training in preparation for an event.
PLEASE NOTE: Performance data with emphasis on EPD’s may be provided in some swine and beef breeding classes. The data will be similar to the data that have been provided at most of the OSU Animal Science Field Days.
Contestants who have judged in the American Royal (Kansas City) 4-H Livestock Judging Contest are not eligible to return to that contest. Contestants who have judged in the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest (Louisville) are not eligible for the State 4-H Qualifying Livestock Judging Contest.
This contest will be for senior teams competing for the opportunity to judge at Louisville, Kansas City. First place team will have the option of choosing which contest they will participate in. The qualifying contest for the National Western (Denver) will be held at the Tulsa State Fair.
