Chick Embryo Program

The OSU Extension Service 4-H School Enrichment Program is currently taking orders for chicken eggs to be hatched in county school classrooms.  The Eggs are provided by Tyson Foods and will be delivered to local classrooms the week of February 4th.  In addition to the eggs, the Extension Office has a limited number of incubators that will be loaned out on a first come first serve basis.

The 4-H Chick Embryo Program is one of the county’s most popular school enrichment offerings because it can be adaptable to all ages whether it be a kindergarten classroom or a high school biology lab.  Teaching guides are also available for teachers who are new to the program.

Teachers should be aware that it will take the eggs 21 days to hatch and eggs should be turned daily during the incubation period.  However, the chicks should be ready to leave the incubator prior to the local schools’ spring break period.

The Extension Office will also be offering eggs following spring break and the date for the second offering is yet to be announced.

Teachers wishing to participate in the program should contact the OSU Extension Office at 286-7558 no later than January 28th to place their order.  You may also email Brad Bain at brad.bain@okstate.edu   Teachers should also call the office as soon as possible if an incubator is needed.
